Luxury Glamping Near Kansas City: What a Private Dome Stay Is Really Like

Wander Inn geodesic dome with its front deck and separate covered hot tub gazebo near Butler, Missouri

Love the idea of getting outdoors, but also love a comfortable bed and your own bathroom? We get it.

Imagine trading your sleeping bag for a king bed, your tent for a furnished geodesic dome, and your campground shower for a private bathroom with a rainfall shower. Then add a private hot tub just outside.

Welcome to Return To Roots Glamping Resort, on approximately 30 acres near Butler, Missouri, about 60 miles south of Kansas City. Our four themed domes offer a different way to escape the everyday, with outdoor space and the comforts that make it easy to settle in.

Whether you're planning a romantic weekend, a small-family adventure, or a getaway with friends, here's what to expect from a dome stay with us. You won't need to pack a tent.

What Exactly Is Luxury Dome Glamping?

Glamping—short for glamorous camping—combines time outdoors with comforts you might expect from a vacation rental. At Return To Roots, the dome itself is part of what makes the experience different: curved architecture, large windows, and an interior with its own personality.

Every dome includes:

  • A king bed and additional loft sleeping space

  • A private bathroom with a rainfall shower

  • Heating and air conditioning

  • A kitchenette for simple meals and snacks

  • Wi-Fi and indoor entertainment

  • Your own private outdoor hot tub

  • A covered outdoor area

  • A gas grill and smokeless fire pit

Each dome accommodates up to four overnight guests. It's your own place to settle in, with room to enjoy the countryside at your pace.

A King Bed, a Loft, and Room to Unwind

Each of our domes has a king bed, fresh linens, inviting furnishings, and a loft with additional sleeping space. Look through the photos and sleeping arrangements for your chosen dome before you book, especially when planning a stay with children.

For couples, that means space to enjoy a relaxing escape. For small families, it means a different kind of shared adventure. Heating and air conditioning let you adjust the indoor temperature, while the large windows bring the setting into your stay.

Wake up, take your time, and enjoy a morning that doesn't start with packing away camping gear.

Your Own Private Hot Tub—and It's Included

Every dome at Return To Roots has its own private outdoor hot tub, included with the stay. You don't share it with guests in the other domes, and you don't need to select an upgrade to have access to it.

It's right outside in your dome's outdoor space. Make time for a soak after exploring Butler, enjoy an evening together beneath the Missouri sky, or let the hot tub be the reason you keep the day's plans simple.

When comparing glamping with a hot tub, it's worth checking whether the tub is dedicated to your accommodation or shared with other guests. Here, each of our four domes has its own.

Pack your swimsuit and weather-appropriate layers, and follow the property hot tub guidance during your visit.

Yes, Every Dome Has a Private Bathroom

One of the practical questions for a first glamping trip is where you'll shower and get ready. Each Return To Roots dome has a private bathroom with a toilet, sink, and rainfall shower. There is no shared campground bathhouse to walk to.

We provide linens and towels, too. Pack your personal toiletries and the essentials you normally bring for a weekend away, then enjoy having a bathroom within your own accommodation.

It's a useful comfort whether you're planning a romantic stay or getting a small family ready for the day.

Can You Cook in a Glamping Dome?

Yes. Your dome has a kitchenette for simple meals and snacks, and basic kitchen supplies are provided. Check the amenities for your chosen dome as you plan groceries and decide what you'd like to prepare. Each dome also has a gas grill for outdoor cooking.

You can make an easy meal, enjoy something on the patio, or head into Butler when you feel like eating out. Having a choice is part of what makes an unhurried getaway work.

Make breakfast part of a slow morning

Our optional Breakfast for Two includes homemade sourdough bread, butter, apple butter, sausage links, and six fresh eggs.

The sausage and eggs are provided uncooked and refrigerated for you to prepare in the dome's kitchenette. The bread, butter, and apple butter are ready to enjoy.

Cook together, linger over breakfast, and decide what sounds good next. You don't need to rush out just because you're away from home.

Your Own Outdoor Space, Fire Pit, and Country Air

Step outside and you'll find a dedicated outdoor area, covered space, seating, your gas grill, a smokeless fire pit, and that private hot tub.

Read outside, prepare dinner, or spend part of the evening by the fire. Follow current fire guidance and check available firewood options as you plan your stay. Our optional S'mores for Two can add a sweet finish to your fireside time.

Our approximately 30-acre setting gives you a place to enjoy the countryside. There are no maintained hiking trails at the resort. If you want a hiking outing or another outdoor activity, browse the off-site options in our Local Attractions guide.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with making your dome and private outdoor space the weekend destination.
