Four Couples, Four Domes: A Group Getaway Near Kansas City

Great friends, cozy accommodations, private hot tubs, and a whole lot of fresh air. Sounds like the makings of a pretty good weekend, doesn’t it?

Planning a getaway with friends should be exciting. But anyone who has organized a group trip knows the challenge: finding somewhere everyone can spend time together and still enjoy a little privacy.

At Return To Roots near Butler, Missouri, about 30 acres and four themed glamping domes give your group a different way to get away. Four king beds. Four private bathrooms. Four private hot tubs. One trip to share with your favorite people.

Together when you want. Private when you don’t.

One couple is up with the birds. Another would happily sleep until ten. Someone wants to explore, and someone else has brought a book they fully intend to finish.

With one dome per couple, everyone has their own king bed, bathroom, kitchenette and outdoor area. Enjoy your coffee while your friends sleep in, take an afternoon break, and meet back up when you’re ready. There’s no drawing straws for the pullout couch.

Groups are welcome to gather outdoors between the domes. Bring portable chairs and a folding table if you’d like to create a casual hangout or outdoor meal together. RTR has four separate accommodations and outdoor areas, with no large shared indoor or covered gathering space, so plan a weather alternative for group activities.

Four domes, four different personalities

Choosing your dome is part of the fun. Send everyone the dome photos and details and let each couple pick a favorite.

Wander Inn

For the couple who loves a nature-inspired escape and appreciates a comfortable bed at the end of the day. Wander Inn brings the outdoor feeling into your own cozy retreat.

5 O’Clock Somewhere

Vacation mode: activated. A tiki-inspired theme brings a little island attitude to the Missouri countryside.

The Fur Seasons

Sometimes your four-legged best friend deserves a vacation, too. The Fur Seasons is our designated dog-friendly dome. Review the current pet policy before booking; reserving all four domes does not make the other three dog-friendly.

Still deciding between separate domes and a shared house? Our group accommodation comparison can help you choose the setup that fits your people.

Make the whole place yours

Skip coordinating four separate reservations and hoping the dates line up. Our whole-resort option lets you reserve all four guest domes in one reservation, subject to availability.

Four couples means eight guests, with one king bed per couple. Each dome also has two twin folding mattresses in its loft and accommodates up to four overnight guests, for a resort-wide maximum of sixteen. If you’re bringing families or a larger group, check the loft setup and access before assigning sleeping spaces. The occupancy limit doesn’t mean sixteen separate beds.

This can be a lovely way to reconnect with longtime friends, celebrate a birthday or anniversary as overnight guests, or get several households away together. Compare a few date options, review the complete booking total and current terms, and agree on your group’s plans before reserving.

Good food, great company, and room to slow down

Wake up slowly. Sip coffee outside. Listen to the birds. You don’t need a packed itinerary to make a weekend feel worthwhile.

Each dome has its own kitchenette and outdoor grill for simple meals and snacks. Before making a grocery list, check the equipment you’ll need. For a group cookout, bring your chairs, folding table and favorite supplies, then decide who’s handling what.

There’s nothing wrong with letting someone else do the cooking, either. Browse our local attractions guide for places to eat and outings around Butler. Check directly with the business for current hours and group arrangements.

And remember: everyone doesn’t have to do the same thing all day. That’s part of the beauty of having your own dome.

A weekend with three other couples

Friday: arrive, unpack, unwind

Follow the arrival details in your reservation, settle into your dome, and let the weekend begin. Maybe you arrange a casual outdoor dinner or spend the first evening enjoying your private hot tubs. If you gather around one dome’s fire pit, plan seating for your group and follow current fire rules.

Saturday: a little adventure—or absolutely nothing

Make breakfast at your own pace, then head into Butler or choose an outing from the local guide. Or skip sightseeing entirely. A book, a conversation and nowhere you need to be can make a pretty satisfying afternoon.

Come back together for your planned meal or outdoor games, then return to your own dome whenever you’re ready to call it a night.

Sunday: one last cup of coffee

Enjoy a final slow moment, collect your belongings, and follow the checkout time and instructions in your booking. You may already be comparing calendars for the next trip.
